Planting cuttings of grapes in spring in open ground. When to plant grape cuttings

Rooting cuttings is one of the easiest and most reliable ways grape propagation, which makes it easy to obtain a large amount of high-quality planting material. Subject to several simple rules growing grapes from cuttings is great even for inexperienced novice gardeners.

Where and what kind of grapes can be grown from cuttings

In grapes, cuttings of almost all varieties are easily rooted. However, for the southern zone of viticulture in the areas of distribution of a dangerous quarantine pest - phylloxera (grape root aphid), it is advisable to grow only special phylloxera-resistant varieties on their roots. These include:

  • Moldova,
  • In memory of Negrul,
  • Alpha,
  • Aurora Magaracha,
  • The firstborn of Magarach and others.

Classic traditional varieties of European grapes are very quickly affected by phylloxera, which settles not on their leaves, but on the roots underground, where the pest is almost impossible to destroy without destroying the plant itself. Affected bushes soon die from rotting of the root system. Phylloxera is common in most countries of Europe and the Mediterranean, in the Crimea, the Caucasus (including the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories), in Rostov region, in Ukraine and Moldova. In these regions, old European varieties are grown only on special phylloxera-resistant rootstocks.

Phylloxera - the most dangerous quarantine pest of the southern vineyards

In Belarus, central Russia, the Moscow region, the Volga region, Kazakhstan, the Urals and Siberia, there are no phylloxera yet, and you can safely cut grapes of any variety that is suitable for winter hardiness, ripening time and taste. Moreover, a self-rooted culture of grapes is much more preferable here - such plants are easier to restore from preserved roots after freezing of the above-ground part in a harsh winter.

When and how to harvest grape cuttings for planting

The best time for harvesting grape cuttings is autumn after the shoots have matured, from October until the onset of stable cold weather. It is undesirable to do this in the spring because of the high probability that the shoots will be frozen or dry during the winter.

In my practice, there was one case when they successfully overwintered and, after spring planting, grapevine prunings took root safely, lying just on the ground under the snow all winter. But it was a local winter-hardy variety of uncovered grapes, and that winter was especially mild and even in temperature.

In autumn, healthy young vines are selected for cuttings. They should be well matured (with a brown surface of the bark), green when cut and about 1 cm thick. Usually the cuttings are cut into lengths from 30 to 70 cm, making cuts at a distance of 3-4 cm from the bud and removing all leaves.

Grape cuttings are harvested in the fall after the vines have matured.

If the cuttings are intended for long-term storage or transportation over long distances, their ends can be dipped into liquid paraffin immediately after cutting to reduce moisture loss (before soaking and planting, the lower cut must be renewed so that the cutting can absorb water).

Autumn planting of grape cuttings in a permanent place

In the conditions of Ukraine and the southern part of Russia, the most appropriate autumn planting freshly cut cuttings immediately on permanent place. They are simply stuck with the lower end into loose, moist soil and watered. The lower end of the cutting should be at a depth of about 0.5 m, and only the upper kidney remains above the soil surface.

For autumn planting, long cuttings are preferred, which can be planted at an angle.

In the Middle Volga region, the autumn planting of cuttings immediately to a permanent place in the garden usually turns out to be quite successful for local frost-resistant varieties of uncovered grapes.

In Belarus and the southern regions of central Russia, autumn planting of cuttings of winter-hardy northern grape varieties is also possible. For a more reliable wintering, an earthen mound 20–30 cm high can be poured over the upper end of the shoot, which will need to be carefully raked in the spring after the soil has thawed.

Cuttings of southern grape varieties in the Moscow region and regions similar in climate with a short summer, as well as any grape varieties in the Urals and Siberia, are stored in storage for the winter.

Winter storage of grape cuttings

At home, it is easiest to store cuttings in an ordinary household refrigerator at a temperature of 1–3°C by placing them in plastic bag. At higher temperatures, there is a danger of premature awakening of the kidneys. You can save the cuttings in the basement or cellar in a box with slightly moistened sawdust or sand. It is advisable to periodically inspect them in order to adjust the temperature and humidity conditions if necessary. Prematurely awakened cuttings must be urgently taken out of storage and rooted.

Planting vine cuttings in spring

Spring planting in open ground cuttings without roots is possible only in the southern regions with long summers and mild winters, although it is much easier and more expedient to plant such cuttings in the fall immediately in a permanent place. In the conditions of the Moscow region, the Urals and Siberia, cuttings planted without roots immediately in the garden do not have time to take root sufficiently by autumn and most often freeze out during the first wintering. Therefore, in regions with short summers and harsh winters, cuttings are grown in advance in a greenhouse or simply in a room on a windowsill before planting.

Sprouting cuttings at home

For the Moscow region, the best time to start pre-planting germination of grape cuttings occurs in late February - early March. For beginner gardeners, it is better to take cuttings with three or at least two buds (eyes) for this.

Rooting of one-eyed cuttings, which have a very small supply of nutrients, is possible with a lower heating device (you can use a heating battery) with good ventilation (permanently open windows), so that the roots appear earlier than the shoots due to the temperature difference.

Caring for planted grape cuttings

During the summer season, the ground in the young vineyard is regularly loosened and weeded. In hot, dry summers, watering is necessary 1-2 times a week, 1 bucket of water for each plant. Growing shoots, as they grow, are tied to a trellis. If buds appear on the plants in the first year, it is better to cut them off immediately so as not to interfere with the development of the roots.

It is better to cut the buds formed in the first year so as not to weaken the young plants.

In autumn, young grapes must be removed from their supports, laid on the ground and covered for the winter in accordance with the winter hardiness of a particular variety in the data. climatic conditions. From the second year after planting - care as for an ordinary adult vineyard.

Propagation of grapes by summer green cuttings

Grapes can be cuttings in the summer.

One-eyed green cuttings are used in the propagation of new valuable varieties

The use of one-eyed (with only one bud) green cuttings gives the highest yield of planting material per plant, which is especially important for the propagation of new valuable varieties.

The main disadvantage of green cuttings is the need to arrange the first wintering of seedlings obtained in this way in a basement or greenhouse. Therefore, it is best to root green cuttings immediately in cups, which are easy to transfer to the right place without disturbing the roots with an extra transplant.

Grape - a light-loving culture that many summer residents want to start on their plots. However, it is difficult to grow it, as it is demanding on environmental conditions and care. Therefore, not every summer resident manages to get a chic vineyard . But everyone can do it. Development is affected not only care but also the place of growth. Many are interested how to plant wild grapes, including on the fence . This plays an important decorative function. In this article, we will consider how planting grapes to rejoice in the harvest.

Culture features

Knowledge of the biological characteristics of grapes will allow you to grow a strong plant. He loves light and warm, so growing in cold climates will be problematic. Should not be planted in shadows larger plants, as many gardeners do. Opinion that culture will Okay develop by growing fruit trees, erroneously.

There are species, the neighborhood with which is detrimental to the future vineyard. First of all, this applies to trees with a powerful root system:

  • mulberry;
  • acacia;
  • poplar;
  • Walnut.

Distance between grapes and these species should be at least 6 meters. Also, do not plant currants, raspberries, gooseberries nearby. Place the vineyard is more than two meters from these bushes . If you do not observe the optimal distance, then your crop will receive less water and nutrients from the ground.

Experienced gardeners to the question " How to plant grapes? ' answer that better in rows. It is advisable to place them from north to south. So the berries can get enough light. If the rows are arranged from east to west, then there will be no good harvest. FROM north side the berries will be unripe, and from the east they will get severe burns.

Grapes can grow on any soil, but the yield will depend on its quality. In wetlands with high acidity, the culture will develop poorly. Also, do not expect a good harvest from vineyards planted on saline soil. The culture bears fruit well on light soil, chernozem and chestnut lands. Vineyards develop better on soil with a lot of humus. If it is not enough, then you can increase its content by adding organic.

Popular varieties

Grapes surprise with a variety of taste and color of berries. There is different classifications culture. For example, by the color of berries varieties divided into light, red and purple. Also classified by purpose (wine, table).

Early varieties of dark grapes are:

  • Gala;
  • Fun;
  • Bastra;
  • Zest;
  • Baikonur.

Early light varieties include Arcadia, Muscat Delight, Bazhena, Tason and Superekstra. This is one of the favorites of many gardeners.

Not less popular are medium varieties:

  • blue grapes - Astra, Odessa souvenir, Aramis;
  • white grapes - Talisman, Monk, Verona, Ladies finger.

Berries are not only tasty and healthy, they also serve as an excellent decoration for the garden. They are used in food, for the preparation of many dishes, including desserts. A favorite is also made from grapes alcoholic drink- wine. The following varieties are used for its preparation:

  • Chardonnay;
  • Isabel;
  • Muscat Blau;
  • Kishmish is unique;
  • Muscaris;
  • Merlot;
  • Cabernet.

Grapes are loved by many, but some are confused by the presence of seeds. Some even refuse to eat berries because of them. However, there are seedless varieties:

  • Aphrodite;
  • Kishmish;
  • Jupiter;
  • Rusball;
  • Long-awaited.

By planting and growing bushes of these varieties, it will be possible to enjoy seedless berries. At correct care any culture will give good harvest. Grapes are no exception.

To perform a decorative function, there is a special kind. This is about girlish five-leafed grapes. This is a tree-like deciduous liana. She looks great on fences and serves as a decoration Houses. Planting girlish grapes is a simple matter, and care behind this plant is quite uncomplicated. Liana will decorate your yard and protect your house from gusts of wind.

How to choose the right time to work with culture

Summer residents - beginners it is difficult to choose a period for planting. Experienced gardeners know that spring is the best time to do this. If you did not have time to plant a culture, then you can do this manipulation autumn.

spring planting annuals seedlings starts in the last days Martha. The material can be purchased on the market or in specialized stores. You can also try to grow them on your own, for example, in basement . Planting of vegetative plants begins later, around the end of May.

If landing grapes decided to start in the fall, it is best to do this in October. To protect a young plant from the effects environment, it is worth covering it with plastic bottle . It is important to mulch the soil.

How to prepare a hole

It is recommended to do this in the fall in order to get a hole for a better development of the culture by the spring warming. To do this, dig a recess of 80 cm, preferably on the south side of the site .There is some debate about hole size. Some gardeners claim that it should be no more than 50 cm, while others insist on larger dimensions within a meter.

Place a drainage at the bottom, its layer should be 10 cm high. Use a broken brick in its role (you can replace it with crushed stone). Above, pour a layer of fertile soil (this is soil from a hole mixed with ash, humus, superphosphate).

Spring landing

This difficult process, that's why beginners gardeners need step by step instructions . If you have decided when to plant grapes , then it is also worth deciding how: cuttings or seedlings.

First, let's figure out how to propagate the culture in the first way. For this you need to take chubuk (green stalk ) from 45 cm long. Important point: cut it off necessary in a certain period - 2 weeks before flowering, or as soon as it has come. Prepare the cutting for planting by removing the bottom leaves. An oblique cut is made at the bottom. After that, place the chubuk in water for 2 days. It should be at room temperature, this is important for the normal development of the cutting.

After two days, dip the upper cut into molten paraffin for just a couple of seconds. After that, dip the stem into the growth stimulator solution. One of the most popular is the drug "Epin". In the solution, the stalk should stay for about a day. Now he is ready to land.

When to plant grape cuttings in bottles ? Immediately after soaking in the above solution. Before landing in open soil, let the cutting take root in an ordinary plastic bottle.

Now comes the landing in the pit. Before that, drive a peg into the ground, the longer the better - it will rely on vine. Dig a small hole nearby plant cutting. Then fill the hole with soil and Okay tamp, then water. The soil should settle a little. After the water is completely absorbed, you need to add a little moist soil so that a mound forms above the chubuk. Planting cuttings of grapes is one of the popular ways cultivation of culture.

Propagation by seedlings occurs as follows.

  1. Insert a plastic tube into a previously prepared hole. Its diameter should be about 5 cm. It will be convenient through it. water seedling. Stick it on the side, as grapes will be planted in the center.
  2. Soil is poured into the pit so that approximately 50 cm is left to the edges. After that, pour the hole abundantly.
  3. Wait for the ground to absorb water. When this happens, proceed directly to landing. Be careful with roots . During landing, do not forget to straighten them.
  4. Now fill the hole to the brim.

In order for the seedling to develop normally, it must be shaded and watered through a tube daily. Planting grapes in spring seedlings it is worth "reinforcing" loosening and mulching the soil. For the latter, straw or sawdust is useful. They will retain moisture in the ground, which is important for a young plant. The culture grows quite quickly, but you can only eat berries next year.

Autumn landing

Some gardeners prefer to plant crops during the colder part of the year.Growing grapes in autumn has its advantages:

  • no need to store seedlings in cellar;
  • reduced risk of disease;
  • such a seedling adapts faster, since its root system is more developed.

Germination culture is practically no different from conducting the process in the spring. An important tip for beginners: autumn land no later than two to three weeks before the onset of frost.

However, it is worth taking care of warming. If this is not a problem for experienced summer residents, then beginners need help. There are several ways to insulate seedlings:

  • cut plastic bottle;
  • branches and fallen leaves;
  • tarpaulin.

Places plantings, cover with a small layer of soil to form a mound. It is advisable to mark the holes with sticks. So you will find faster in the spring seedlings.

Is it possible to plant grapes in summer or winter

For those who are determined to grow these berries, the time of the year - not an obstacle. For example, in winter, you can start preparing the bones . To get started, you need to purchase seed desired variety and sow them in cup.

Use the instructions for preparing the grains:

  • split the seed (the best month of the calendar for this - December);
  • prepare a substrate of damp paper towels, peat moss or sand;
  • put the substrate in the bag and place the bones there;
  • sprinkle about 125 mm of soil on top for seedlings;
  • refrigerate the seeds by placing them in the refrigerator.

Do not let the bones freeze, keep them in the cold for no more than three months. The optimum temperature for storing seeds is 1-3°C. In the spring, plant seedlings in a glass or pots. You can set the containers on balcony when it gets warmer. In the cold, you can put a sprout on windowsill . After that, you need to transplant it into pot more, and later land on cottage or garden.

Often grapes grow in polycarbonate greenhouses . To land him like this, you should first prepare earth . Mix greenhouse soil with compost mixture, ash and superphosphate. Dig holes about 50 cm deep. The ideal temperature is between 20 and 25 °C.

Seedlings should be illuminated from one side sun , and above - artificial devices. In this building they can be rooted, and then transplanted into yard or garden. When to plant vine cuttings in winter ? You can do this at any time. Just create the best terms for crop germination in a greenhouse.

Grapes are a rather capricious culture and getting large beautiful bunches can be considered an art. If the old unpretentious forms also produce crops without proper care, then modern valuable varieties require close attention.

High-quality planting material and competent planting work is the key to successful cultivation of grapes. Even beginner growers can prepare their planting material at home.

It is better to purchase ready-made seedlings from local private traders who have been growing adapted grape varieties in their summer cottage for more than one year and have many positive reviews.

Spring planting is practiced in regions with severe winters, where the risk of death of a young seedling from frost is high. To plant in the spring, you need to safely save the planting material and properly prepare it for planting.

Procurement and storage of planting material of grapes

For spring planting, chibouks and seedlings are used. Seedlings are grown from cuttings, and chibouks are cut from a one-year-old fruiting vine and rooted at the end of winter. The vine for chubuk is harvested at autumn pruning. One and a half meter lashes with a thickness of more than 5 mm are selected.

When preparing cuttings, at least 3 live buds are left on each. The length of a standard cutting should be 35 ± 5 cm. The cuttings are cut from last year's central shoots. Before laying in storage, they are bundled and completely processed in a solution of copper sulphate.

During storage, it is necessary to minimize the loss of nutrients so that there is strength for root formation and shoot growth. This can be achieved at low positive temperatures close to zero; storage of grape cuttings at sub-zero temperatures is unacceptable. Since the vine and cuttings are often stored in a cellar or refrigerator at a temperature of 4 - 5 ºC, which leads to loss of moisture, it is necessary to take care of good moisture (wet sand or sawdust, occasional snow cover). At temperatures above 8 ºC, the buds swell and begin to grow, so these conditions are unsuitable for storing planting material.

The cuttings are placed in wooden boxes and sprinkled with sand, the vine is also sprinkled with sand and covered with polyethylene.

For the entire storage period, it is necessary to sort out the cuttings several times and inspect the vine, control the temperature and monitor the humidity. If waterlogged, mold fungi can develop. Dry or diseased cuttings are discarded.

Ready seedlings are best stored with a closed root system in a bucket of moistened sand. If the cellar is sufficiently humid, then additional moistening of the sand during storage is not required. For each seedling, you must attach a tag with the name of the variety and place of purchase.

Particular attention needs to be paid planting material in the cellar with the onset of spring warming. A sharp increase in temperature can provoke premature growth processes in the kidneys.

Site selection for grapes and soil preparation

Grapes grow well in sunny areas that quickly warm up in spring. It does not tolerate cold northern winds and stagnant water. The soil should be loose and fertile.

The site for spring planting is prepared in the fall: compost or humus is added, dug well, and drainage is arranged if necessary. Also, in the fall, it is desirable to have time to dig holes, so the soil in the zone of the root system warms up faster and is better moistened.

Planting holes should be 0.6 to 1 m in diameter and about the same depth. The distance between plants in one row is 1.5 - 2 m, row spacing - from 2 to 3 m. With denser plantings, the risk of developing specialized grape diseases increases, as the circulation of air masses worsens.

At the bottom of each hole, a 10-centimeter drainage layer is made of crushed stone, a support is installed for tying the future seedling and rammed. On this autumn preparation ends.

Preparing seedlings and cuttings for planting

If the cuttings were stored in wet sand and overwintered safely, then by the beginning of April they will form plump roots and open the leaves. Such material is already ready for planting, it remains only to harden the young plants. If the soil has warmed up and the weather permits, they can be planted in open ground first in shkolki. By autumn, they will develop into full-fledged seedlings and they can be planted in a permanent place.

To get grown seedlings, chibouks are cut from the stored vine, as in autumn cuttings. Next, prepare the substrate (wet sawdust or a mixture of soil and sand), steam it for disinfection. Cuttings and planting of chibouks are carried out from the beginning of March to April, when the sunny day will lengthen. Chubuks are soaked in a growth stimulator before planting.

It is better to plant each chubuk in a separate container, it is easier to plant it without damaging the root system. As a planting container, you can use plastic bottles with a cut neck or soldered greenhouse film bags. Drainage holes must be made in the bottom of the container excess moisture. The transparent walls of the container allow you to see how the root system has developed and whether it is healthy.

When planting, the chubuk is buried in a moist substrate by 10 - 15 cm, since the top layer of the substrate dries out faster. Ideally, roots should form somewhere in the middle of the planting container. Chubuki is recommended to be regularly sprayed with water. Subject to the technology, the germination of cuttings is quite active and by May a good seedling will be formed, suitable for planting in a permanent place. It is highly undesirable to keep the chubuk in a nutrient-poor substrate (sawdust), since the plant is very depleted and does not take root in open ground, even with good development.

If there are few cuttings and all varieties are rare, it is better not to be too lazy and grow them at home before planting. For beginner growers, this method will allow you to get a guaranteed result. It is very important to choose the right timing for planting cuttings, they depend not only on the light zone (when the summer season is in full swing in the Moscow region, on Far East only greenhouse plantings begin), but may also vary depending on the nature of the spring weather.

Planting grapes in open ground

Planting of grape seedlings is carried out mid-April to end of May into pre-prepared holes. To fill the planting pit, prepare a mixture of garden soil with humus, you can add sand and ash.

The seedling is transferred to the pit along with a clod of earth, deepened to the root neck or slightly higher (after shrinkage, the neck will be on the surface). The planting hole is filled in such a way that a capacious hole for irrigation remains. After planting, it is necessary to water the seedlings abundantly and arrange shading for them so that the spring sun's rays do not burn the delicate leaves. When the soil warms up well, a layer of mulch must be made to protect it from overheating and drying out.

The grown chibouks have a less developed root system, which is more susceptible to weather factors. Therefore, when planting, the chubuk do not fall asleep much, allowing the sun to warm up the upper layer for the normal development of the roots. Already in the summer, the pit is filled with humus or compost and mulched.

The roots of a seedling or chubuk should be at a depth of 0.5 - 0.6 m, otherwise they may freeze out in the first winter.

Immediately after planting and until the plants gain strength, moderate daily watering is carried out. Further care for the grapes of the first year of life consists in weeding, watering and loosening. Treatment for diseases and pests is carried out if necessary.

Spring cuttings of grapes

If you do not grow, then the cuttings are planted in early spring, slightly updating the bottom slice. In order not to store seedlings and cuttings, cuttings can be carried out in the spring. During grape pruning, medium shoots with short internodes are selected. The cuttings are cut into a length of 30 - 35 cm with 5 buds.

Planting grapes in spring with cuttings has a number of features:

  • before planting, the cuttings are soaked in water until they swell, and then they are treated with a root growth stimulator;
  • planted in trenches at an angle of 45º;
  • two buds are left on the surface;
  • top covered with plastic bottles;
  • the soil is mulched with steamed sawdust.

With this method of reproduction, a finished seedling can only be obtained on next year. For spring planting, cuttings are most acceptable.

For the successful growth of grapes, he needs top dressing with fertilizers. The first feeding of seedlings is carried out in the spring with a solution of urea, the second - in early summer with an infusion of mullein. An excess of fertilizer reduces the winter hardiness of the seedling and lengthens the period of shoot ripening. For rooted cuttings, it is better to use foliar top dressing.

So, when to plant grape cuttings in spring? Planting cuttings of grapes in open ground is carried out from May to June, depending on the climatic features of the region. It is during this period that favorable weather conditions for planting are established in most regions, and there is no threat of night frosts that can destroy seedlings.

Properly harvested grape cuttings that have been stored in the winter and germinated in the spring with a high probability will quickly be accepted and begin to produce crops within a few years.

In some regions, early planting is used with covering the cuttings with a film. When warm stable weather is established, the film is removed.

Self-propagation of grapes by cuttings at home does not present any particular difficulties if you follow these simple rules.

Propagation of grapes by cuttings at home is the stage of rooting and germination.

Immediately, before the onset of the planting season, it is required to get the prepared cuttings and prepare them for planting in the ground.

For propagation of grapes by cuttings in the spring, it will be necessary to carry out a germination procedure - placing the cuttings in a moist nutrient medium to form the initial root system.

Before germination, all cuttings should be inspected in places of cuts, they should all have a bright green color with protruding moisture. If the cut of the cutting is dry, then it is rejected, because this means that the plant has died or will not give roots when planted. Germination of such a cutting is also possible, but it will be painful and weak in development.

After that, all the cuttings are soaked in water (thawed or settled) for 1-2 days, water from the tap should not be used, due to the presence of chlorine and various substances used for cleaning. Growth stimulants sold in specialized stores can be added to the water, they will help the cuttings recover faster and gain required amount nutrients. This procedure helps to replenish moisture lost during storage.

Before soaking, all sections should be renewed for better moisture absorption.

There are several ways in which cuttings are rooted before planting:

After soaking, all cuttings are placed in a container with water, so that about half the length of the cutting is in the water. The most convenient for this is a transparent container, since in this case you can visually control the purity of the water and the appearance of roots. As a rule, roots appear on healthy cuttings after 2 weeks.

Germination in containers with soil - after soaking, each cutting is planted in a separate container with soil. The main disadvantage when propagating grapes by cuttings in the spring this method consists in the need for a large number of containers for planting.

To do this, you can use the planting of grape cuttings in the spring in bottles (glasses). Since they are in abundance in almost every home, due to the fairly large number of modern refreshing drinks, it is enough to cut off the neck and the container for planting the cutting is ready.

Germination of cuttings using peat tablets - each cutting is stuck into such a peat tablet, the peat is poured abundantly with water and wrapped in polyethylene or a wet rag. In this form, the cuttings are left for 2-3 weeks in a warm, humid place, after which they can be planted in open ground.
For those who have an aquarium or a large container that is constantly filled with water, you can use the option with a foam float, through the holes in which the cuttings are installed for germination.

These are only the main, most commonly used methods, in fact, a lot here depends on the fantasies of the amateur gardener. The main factors that are required for successful germination are the presence of moisture, constant warm temperature ambient air.

Some gardeners practice planting cuttings in open ground immediately after soaking, thereby bypassing the stage of germination and rooting. This method has some drawbacks, but is the simplest. Of the main disadvantages, a much lower percentage of rooting can be noted than when planting already germinated and rooted material.

Planting cuttings

When planting grape cuttings in the spring, at the very stage of planting, you will need to pick up containers right size. Rooting seedlings for germination can be done different ways:
In the bottom of a large plastic cup, you need to make several holes and pour a little mixture of earth with compost or a substrate for grapes into it.

At the second glass of a smaller size, it is necessary to remove the bottom, insert it into a large glass with soil and fill it with sand.

After a good watering, you can stick the stalk in the sand. Then it is recommended to cover the seedling with polyethylene to keep warm..

IN plastic bottle you need to pour a little drainage, then a thick layer of compost, peat or grape substrate. A cutting is placed in the prepared soil. It is important that it is not much longer than the bottle, as it must be covered with a plastic cup until green shoots begin to form.

Good growth of grape cuttings depends on regular, but not excessive watering and good lighting. It is allowed to feed seedlings.

After the formation of a strong root system and the formation of the first green leaves, the plant can be planted in open ground.

Before planting grapes, you should first determine the place. When choosing a place, it is important to know about the increased sensitivity of grapes to heat and light.

For planting a vineyard, areas open to the south and southwest with good sunlight are quite suitable.

Places protected from cold northern winds by the walls of buildings or houses with ornamental or fruit vegetation, as well as the southern, southwestern or southeastern border of a household or suburban area, well suited for planting a vineyard.

Properly planted and skillfully placed varieties provide a good harvest and high quality grapes, as well as serve as a good decoration for home gardens. It is impossible to plant grapes in the shade of fruit and other trees, near manure heaps, as well as near pits with coal slag and different kind garbage. Grapes do not tolerate proximity to poplar and walnut, as well as with other tree species that have a strong root system, which dries up the soil and creates a large shady space.

Grape cuttings ready for planting

When planting, cuttings that do not have callus, are overdried and incapable of further development. The better the choice of cuttings during planting, the greater the likelihood of good seedlings. The cuttings are placed at an angle relative to the side of the ditch, given the distance between them of about 13 cm, one or two eyes should also remain above the ground. Next, the pit is half filled with fertile soil, well tamped and filled with water. As soon as the water is completely absorbed, you can fill the hole with earth.

A good grape seedling is not so easy to acquire. It makes no sense to consider the price of the issue - the quality does not always correspond to the monetary equivalent.

In appearance, it is almost impossible to establish the varietal affiliation of the vine. Therefore, one can only speculate about the possibility of growing a variety in a particular region and take the word of the seller. And many varieties of grapes, even in the south of Russia (Krasnodar Territory), are grown in a covering way.

Buying a seedling with an open root system is generally not the right decision if you are only an “amateur” and are not very versed in these roots.

In order not to buy a "pig in a poke" of unknown origin, it is much easier to turn to local growers. A real fan of the vine will be happy to share with you not only cuttings, but also practical recommendations for rooting and growing a grape bush. It won't cost him anything...

When pruning an adult grape bush, 80-90% of the growth is removed every year, this is not counting about the same number of broken green shoots during the summer clearing of the bush.

  1. The vine should be well matured, no more than 1 cm thick.
  2. Have 3-4 kidneys, 30-40 cm long.
  3. The lower edge of the cutting should be 3-4 cm below the kidney.
  4. It is desirable that it begins and ends with a tendril - these nodes contain membranes, which means that the vine loses less moisture and is more stable.

Cuttings in the fall - store or root

The main thing to consider is that only autumn cut cuttings are suitable for rooting. By autumn, the vine stores nutrients. Cut vines continue to breathe, so during the day they should be determined either for storage or planted.

Moreover, this “planting” means only that from October-November the grape cuttings will wait for spring in the most suitable conditions, and as soon as the heat comes, they will begin to grow roots.

How to save until spring

Cut cuttings for winter storage must be placed in conditions close to natural. The main thing is that they do not dry out and do not wake up.

To prevent the vine from drying out, you can dip the sections in melted wax (paraffin) or cover with plasticine.

So that the kidneys do not wake up ahead of time, the cuttings are placed in a cold place - a cellar or a refrigerator.

  1. For storage in the cellar in winter, the cuttings are placed in slightly damp sand so that they are covered with a layer of at least 3-4 cm.
  2. For storage in the refrigerator, the cuttings are wrapped in slightly damp paper and placed in a plastic bag (leave small holes for ventilation). They must be kept at a temperature of + 1-3 ° C, periodically checked and ventilated.

How to root in the fall

Without laying down for winter storage, grape cuttings can be planted for rooting in the fall.

  1. in school - a warmed greenhouse in the country;
  2. in a bowl with an earthen mixture - for rooting in an apartment.

How to organize a school

An ordinary greenhouse in the country can be used to root grape cuttings.

  1. The lowest kidney must be plucked out, and the area of \u200b\u200bthe cortex near this node must be scratched or slightly incised.
  2. The cuttings are stuck into the soil at an angle so that the sun in the spring illuminates and warms the vine as best as possible.
  3. The cutting should be buried in the ground so that only 1 kidney is above the surface.
  4. Segments of the vine are planted at a distance of 12-15 cm from each other in a row with a distance between rows of at least 35-40 cm. This distance is necessary for the convenience of caring for the cuttings - weeding, loosening and watering.
  5. Arcs are installed above the school, which are covered with a film. The space under the film is filled with dry leaves, straw, etc.
  6. In the spring, the school is periodically opened and ventilated.
  7. When the temperature is set at about 0 ° C, the film is removed.

Contrary to popular belief, the vine is able to withstand fairly low temperatures - almost all varieties calmly tolerate -20-25 ° C, many - and -30 ° C. The root system can withstand up to -7-10 ° C. The weak link is blossoming buds.

After storage in the refrigerator closer to spring, in late February - early March, grape cuttings must be well soaked in order to prepare for rooting and planting. To do this, they are completely immersed in settled or melted water for 1 day.

How to prepare cuttings for rooting and hold them with best result You can watch it in the Youtube story.

How to grow a seedling in an apartment

A cutting planted in the ground does not always take root successfully. Very often, the buds awaken, even release leaves and ... dry up. Without understanding anything, you take out a piece of vine. And it doesn't have any roots...

They didn't exist. In order for roots to grow, special conditions must be created. It is optimal that the roots are warm, and the top of the cutting is cold, so that the kidney does not wake up before the formation of nourishing roots.

How to sprout roots

To accelerate the formation of roots, the cutting must be prepared.

  1. The lower part of the vine is desirable to pluck the first bud and furrow the bark - at the site of the cuts (scratches), the beginnings of the roots are formed.
  2. Put the cuttings in ordinary water, or better, in a solution of a natural growth stimulator - 1 teaspoon of honey per 1 liter of water.

Cuttings should be immersed in the solution only 2-3 cm. The roots will only grow if they need to reach for water. Very often they form above the water level.

An easy way to root

If you soak the cuttings in honey water for about 1 week, you can do the following.

  1. Soak in honey solution peat tablets by the number of cuttings.
  2. Stick the cuttings into the prepared tablets and wrap the bottom in cling film or a damp cloth. The upper sections must be covered with wax or paraffin.
  3. Wrap everything in a film and leave it alone for 3 weeks.

Most often, during this time, the roots will break through the tablet. Now you should carefully cut the shell of the tablet and you can plant the rooted stalk in a bowl with soil.

How to properly plant a rooted cutting in the soil

It is very convenient to plant rooted cuttings for growing in cut PET water bottles.

  1. They are conveniently placed on the windowsill of a city apartment.
  2. Through the transparent walls you can observe the growth of the roots.

Bottles must be taken at least 2 liters. Make holes and pour drainage - fragments of ceramics or rubble. Land for cultivation should be light and not too nutritious - this will speed up the development of the root system.

  1. Pour 5-7 cm of soil.
  2. Install the cutting and carefully sprinkle the soil, trying not to damage the roots.
  3. As soon as the soil covers the roots, it should be well watered and covered to the top with earth.
  4. It is desirable that only 1 upper eye be above the ground, but there are varieties with large internodes - such a seedling will simply have to be planted deeper into the ground in a permanent place.

You need to water the seedlings sparingly - 100 g of water for 1 watering, about 1 time per week, just so that the earth does not dry out. Stronger can be watered at a soil temperature of at least 18 ° C and a very porous composition of the soil.

When growing seedlings at a temperature of 15 ° C and below, you can even water it once every 2-3 weeks, but sometimes the growing leaves can be sprayed with water.

As far as possible, accustom the seedlings to sunlight and fresh air on the balcony. If there is a greenhouse, you can immediately send the cuttings planted in bottles there. Special control is not required - only watering once a week.

Plant the vine in a permanent place, focusing on the growth of the young vine. If possible, you can grow grapes in a greenhouse until next spring. It should only be transplanted into a larger container by cutting the bottle so as not to damage the roots.
