What roses to plant in the garden. Unpretentious roses: the best varieties, photos, description

An old variety that recently celebrated its centenary (it was registered in 1916). Over the years, has gained immense popularity in the countries of the Old and New Worlds. This is a classic rambler, blooming once on last year's shoots, which must be preserved in the winter. Flowering is long, up to 1.5 months.

The old variety "Paul" s Scarlet "is still popular. Photo

Semi-double crimson-red flowers with purple flashes are collected in lush drooping inflorescences. The leaves are dark green and resistant to black spot and powdery mildew. It tolerates partial shade and poor soils, the flowers are not afraid of rain. Light honey aroma.

If the lashes of roses are tied horizontally to the lattice, flowering shoots will grow on them along their entire length from top to bottom. Thanks to this garter, it is easy to create a flowering wall. Fits into cover with no problems. Before this, lashes that have faded in summer are cut out.

  • "New Dawn"
An outstanding climbing rose, bred by American breeders in 1930. In terms of winter hardiness and endurance, there is hardly any other variety comparable to it.

"New Dawn" is a fragrant variety with classic-shaped flowers. A photo

Flowers of ideal classical form with a high center of an amazing mother-of-pearl-pink hue, have a delicate aroma. The rose quickly grows to a height of up to 3 m, flexible lashes tirelessly covered with flowers all summer long. Can winter almost without shelter, just under the snow. If it freezes in a harsh winter, it is easily restored.

Place this rose not in the open sun, but in a rarefied shade: in this case, the flowers do not fade and last longer. It is better to tie up the lashes so that they do not stick out in different directions, and plant the bush itself either in the background of the mixborder near the fence, to which the rose can be tied, or near the western wall of the house. The only drawback is that the “old woman” has a very prickly disposition, but much can be forgiven for sophistication and vitality.

  • "The Fairy"
Charming Variety (1932). Represents a group of old-fashioned polyanthus roses and remains the most popular and widespread in the world due to its fantastic unpretentiousness and abundant continuous flowering. Extreme ease in culture, winter hardiness, excellent landscape qualities put this rose on a par with other outstanding varieties.

It blooms with myriads of small pink flowers strung on 10-40 pieces. into thin, slightly visible branches, capable of self-cleaning. Easily formed by cutting into a neat round bush.

Luck of Kordes

  • Flammentanz

In the garden classification of roses, it occupies a special, only its own place. It belongs to once flowering, but it cannot be considered a classic rambler. Does not need to remove faded shoots, as next year they will bloom again. Quite easily fits under cover and confidently endures even the most severe frosts. It has been noticed that it lives longer as a root, so it is better to propagate it by cuttings.

  • Westerland
An amazing 1969 scrub, a rose of unique beauty with bright semi-double cup-shaped flowers. Complex coloring during blooming changes from fiery orange to salmon pink. The golden yellow center of the flower glows from within. The edges of the petals are wavy, which gives the rose grace and unique charm. This, in my opinion, is a short list of the best varieties of roses currently available to our gardener. Frankly, I had a difficult task to select the most worthy of the huge number of varieties offered on the market. I admit that someone may not agree with this choice, someone has their own favorites. But all the proposed roses were tested among one and a half hundred varieties growing in my garden, and were selected not so much for their beauty (and they are all beautiful, there are simply no ugly roses), but for their ease in culture and their economic qualities - disease resistance, winter hardiness , the ability to bloom profusely and for a long time. In any case, I vouch for them and I am sure that they will not disappoint you!

A rose is a beautiful flower with a delicate aroma and a spectacular appearance that can revive even the dullest flower garden. The variety of forms and palettes of this plant allows you to profitably design a different landscape of the site, carry out vertical gardening, grow hedge or reproduce the royal greenhouse at home. Winter-hardy roses can decorate the rose garden or front garden of site owners in cold areas.

Rosa is the Latin collective name in botany for representatives of the genus Rosehip, the Rosaceae family, or Rosaceae. It is impossible to call this flower unpretentious. For a seedling, it is necessary to carefully select a place, lighting, soil. They require constant care throughout the season. Mandatory procedures for such a pet to be healthy, actively develop and bloom regularly, are constant treatment from various microbial, balanced and timely feeding, pruning.

Most wild varieties exist quietly in the climate of the middle zone and endure frosty winters almost without damage. Cultivated species are not so immune to cold, so flower growers often suffer losses. To solve this problem, scientists and botanists resort to selection. The result of their labors was winter-hardy varieties of roses.

After carrying out the necessary preparatory work on the site the question arises of which winter-hardy roses should be purchased. A wide range in garden centers and specialized stores will not disappoint the consumer. Next, the most unpretentious and winter-hardy representatives of the family will be considered.

Ground cover roses include many representatives of the genus in their group. They got their resistance to diseases and excellent frost resistance from wild rose hips. Does not need regular pruning. When thinking about which variety of roses is better to choose for your site, you should pay attention to the characteristics of the soil and climate in the area of \u200b\u200bresidence. Roses with complex colors are very demanding on the composition of the soil and on unsuitable soil they become unsightly. For example, Mainzer Fastnacht on insufficiently acidic soil, instead of a noble shade of lilac, turns into a dirty gray plant. And Martin Frobisher pleases with its flowering only in cool and dry conditions.

What three floribundas must be on the site

The Floribunda class combines profusely flowering varieties, characterized by large inflorescences collected in a brush, and a neat bush shape. When planning which varieties of roses are best planted in your garden, do not forget about the following feature of this class. Floribunda flowers are not as beautiful and graceful as those of hybrid tea varieties, however, these crops are much more resistant to diseases and are highly winter hardy.

An ingenious variety for the garden collection

  • flower (about 8 cm in diameter) lasts up to 2 weeks;

Roses for beginner gardeners

Many experienced flower growers recommend that rose lovers start their “thorny” path by growing rosehip hybrids. Their flowers are not as lush as, for example, those of the floribunda or the hybrid tea class, but they are also more forgiving of beginners' mistakes.

The most unpretentious among the flower queens is the voluminous shrub rose Robusta. It belongs to the class of scrubs and is distinguished by abundant flowering, incredibly bright color of the petals, which attracts the eye, and beautiful foliage. Robusta is absolutely undemanding to growing conditions and does not need special care. This frost-resistant variety also recovers well after infrequent freezing.

Shrub Robusta

The Hansaland park rose can also be a successful “pen test” for a novice designer. Its main disadvantage is very prickly thorns, however, amazing winter hardiness and resistance to fungal damage compensate for this minus.

Hansaland in all its glory

The beauty Rugelda, when choosing a variety of roses, is a kind of compromise between rosehip hybrids and more noble plants. Its delicate lemon-yellow flowers with wavy edges of a bright red hue exude a light aroma. The shape of the Rugelda flower resembles a bowl, and its densely double structure gives the plant extraordinary tenderness. The rose is very frost-resistant and many gardeners do not cover it at all for the winter.

Shrub Rugelda

Black list of roses - what is better to refuse

In order for the choice of roses for planting to be successful, you also need to know about varieties that rarely leave their owners satisfied:

  1. Eiffel Tower. Despite its delicate crystal-pink hue and pleasant aroma, it is unloved by many flower growers. Its two main drawbacks are the inability to form a beautiful bush due to too thin branches, and weak flowers that burn under the sun and rot in the rain.
  2. Vendela - very unstable to fungal diseases, during rainy periods, its buds are completely covered with gray rot.
  3. golden showers. Single flowers of this rose are beautiful only in buds, when blooming they take on a sloppy look. The variety fades in a week, while the petals have time to burn out, and the flowers become loose.

Rose Golden Showers

When choosing a variety of roses for planting in your area, also consider the general patterns. Thus, Austin roses grow best on clay soils in partial shade, and sandy soils and the sun are not very good for them. White or very light plants are more susceptible to attack by pests. To choose the best specimens, look at the plots of your neighbors - perhaps they have already planted rose gardens and suggest something useful that is typical for your region.

Almost all summer residents dream of a cozy flower garden in their summer cottage. But is it possible to imagine it without the queen of flowers - roses? Beautiful flowers with a pleasant aroma have always been and will be the most desired guests on any site.

Types of roses beautiful garden flowers, sung by poets...

  • Miniature and Patio roses;
  • Border, or Multi-flowered;
  • Noble or Large-flowered;
  • Ground cover (Groundcover);
  • Shrub, or shrub roses - Shrub (S);

  • Polyanthus "Polyantha"
  • Grandiflora "Grandiflora", etc.

The most popular groups of roses, having a division based on stable garden characteristics.

Climbing roses (curly)

The type of rose is actively used in garden decor, because it has the ability to grow along vertical surfaces like a bindweed, thanks to creeping shoots (lashes). They can decorate fences or a gazebo, columns, arches, decorate walls. Flowers (2-5 cm in diameter), collected in large inflorescences. When caring for roses, it is important to fertilize the soil. Prefer the sun, heat and light. They do not like frost, but in everything else they are quite practical.

Types of climbing roses are distinguished by:

  • Climers (antique, modern, miniature);
  • Ramblers (large-flowered);
  • Super Ramblers.

Repair roses

Remontant rose bushes are valued for the characteristics of flowers - size, aroma, color. Widely used for cultivation in garden plots. The main sign of roses is the ability to re-bloom in one season (in July-August), but not so abundant. On vigorous (up to 2 m high) erect and spreading bushes, large, fragrant, double flowers bloom in the second half of June, with a diameter of 8 to 16 cm.

These roses are winter-hardy, but they can still freeze slightly, so they require shelter in severe frosts, and are prone to fungal diseases.

Hybrid tea roses (Hybrid Tea and Climbing Hybrid Tea)

There are a lot of variations of garden roses, but one feature is suitable for everyone - nobility and sophistication. These noble roses are obtained from heat-loving Chinese tea roses crossed with remontants. Thanks to this, it was possible to obtain flowers with characteristics that surpassed all previously known species and varieties. One of the most beautiful and elegant species.

The mass and continuous flowering of these magnificent hybrid tea roses lasts from the end of June and the entire month of July. After a short rest, the second wave of flowering begins, continuing until late autumn. However, these beautiful flowers are not always suitable for the garden. Mostly they are grown by experienced gardeners, but, as they say, they do not mold holy pots.

The whole difficulty of growing lies in the fact that hybrid tea roses do not like cold weather and require good shelter for the winter.

They are demanding in care and prone to many diseases. It is because of the disease that this type of rose is very difficult to grow in cold climates. It is difficult for an inexperienced gardener to recognize what causes a particular symptom, but experience comes with practice. For this reason, so often on sale you can find "chemically" roses of this type, which quickly disappear in water without the necessary substances.

Roses differ in the color of foliage and flowers, the shape of the leaf plate, the nature of growth and other signs.

  • Shrub species with falling leaves - Damascus, white, French and other roses.
  • Evergreen varieties with rapid growth of shoots and long flowering - Bourbon, hybrid tea, remontant, polyanthus, etc.
  • Climbing plants of various shapes, sizes, types of flowers - these are varieties such as Orange elf, Gloria Day, Ave Maria, Virgo, etc.

park roses

Old roses are classified as park roses, including decorative types wild rose, wrinkled rose (rugosa). This group of roses is considered one of the most unpretentious of all currently existing. And if you do not have the opportunity to visit your garden every day, it is better to choose some variety from this group.

The most important advantage of this group is their frost resistance. In summer they like sunny places, but not direct intense sunlight, and droop when they are in the shade. The best option for them would be penumbra. Roses of this group do not like wind and should not be planted near trees. Care for them consists in the timely pruning of old branches.

Roses have recently begun to delight us in in public places- parks, along the roads. One of the most beautiful varieties of park roses is Hansaland. He fell in love with many summer residents due to his lush and long flowering, as well as beautiful bright red buds.

ground cover roses

Their name speaks for this group of roses - they literally cover the soil with their color. It looks especially beautiful when bushes are planted together. different varieties of this kind. Ground covers form small buds that grow close to each other, forming a living carpet of roses. Flowers simple, double, semi-double. Most varieties are characterized by long and abundant flowering. As for the habitat, this type of roses is unpretentious, like park roses. Moreover, the rose requires minimal maintenance. So, faded buds can not be cut, they do not need annual pruning, they are not susceptible to diseases.

Shrub roses

The group includes powerful wild-growing shrubs and Austin English roses - with densely double flowers. Unusual appearance, high growth, characterized by abundant and long, but single flowering, exuding a rich aroma. Various shapes and shapes - some are a bit like peonies, others are hybrid tea varieties.

As for care, they are unpretentious, resistant to cold and frost. Unlike park varieties, this species produces large buds. By the way, scrub roses are easy to grow, they have good immunity from diseases.

In choosing roses for garden plot there is one problem - from the whole variety of species, you need to choose only a few. And this is difficult, because in fact all roses are beautiful and interesting, it is difficult to choose one variety. We hope that the article helped you to orient yourself a little in the magical world of roses.

"What types of roses are there, names and photos ...

Many novice flower growers are sure that some special conditions are needed to grow roses on their own plot, and not everyone can succeed. This opinion has developed due to the unsuccessful attempts of many to grow and preserve these capricious beauties. In fact, at correct selection varieties to grow a queen of flowers in your own flower bed is no more difficult than any other flower. It is only important to know which roses are the most unpretentious and winter-hardy and choose a variety, depending on the climatic conditions of the region of residence.

Types of roses for growing in harsh climates with photos

For amateur flower growers living in a harsh climate with frosty and often snowless winters, it is quite difficult to keep roses during the cold season. Initially, the rose was intended for cultivation in warm regions. But there were more and more people who wanted to admire the beauty of this flower all over the world, and then the breeders set themselves the task of growing frost-resistant varieties that could survive quite severe frosts. As a result of their work, the arsenal of flower growers has been replenished with several types of roses that are able to get along in unpredictable weather conditions not only in the middle zone, but also during severe frosts in Siberia.

All types of winter-hardy roses are divided into three types:

  1. Absolutely frost-resistant. Able to winter in an upright position and even in severe frosts do not require attention.
  2. Medium winter hardy. They winter without shelter only in regions with a mild climate, but subject to sufficient snow cover. With a lack of snow, they can freeze slightly. It is recommended to bend down the stems of roses for a quality snow cover.
  3. Relatively winter hardy. They overwinter in an upright position, subject to mild frosts. In regions with a harsh climate, they require high-quality, air-dry shelter.

Roses of Canadian selection

This species was bred in northern Canada, therefore it is resistant to the most severe frosts. Bushes, with proper shelter, can withstand frosts down to -45. Canadian breeders began breeding winter-hardy roses in the second half of the 20th century. The work was funded by the state.

Roses of Canadian selection. Variety Alexander Mackenzie

The species range is represented by two series: Explorer and Parkland. In 2009, another series appeared on the world market - Canadian Artists. Roses are intended for cultivation in the 4th climatic zone. Therefore, under earth shelter they can winter in the conditions of Penza and St. Petersburg , as well as in all nearby cities. In the third climatic zone, in the conditions of the Urals and Trans-Urals, for these roses it is necessary to build a frame shelter and cover them with spruce branches.

The most popular varieties of roses of this species:

  • Charles Austin. The variety is ideal for the climate of the Moscow region. The height of the bush is up to one and a half meters. The flowers are orange, on the petals the color is paler than in the center.
  • Morden Centennial. Park rose with red-pink. Medium sized flowers. The bush is tall, sometimes growing up to two meters.
  • Wasagaming. Pink flowers with a pleasant persistent aroma. Unpretentious variety, withstands severe frost. According to flower growers, this variety is suitable even for the harsh climate of Tyumen. .

Roses of Canadian selection. Variety Champlain

One of the clear advantages of this type of roses is their incredible resistance to temperature extremes. On the summer cottages this type is often used to decorate unattractive areas, decorate arbors and fences. Shoots of climbing roses grow from two to 10-15 meters long and during flowering the bushes are completely covered with flowers. Frost-resistant are varieties of small-flowered climbing roses:

  • Super Excelsa. Blooms in large clusters of fuchsia. Bushes easily tolerate heat and frost.
  • snow goose. The flowers of this variety resemble white balls. Thanks to the abundance of petals. In each brush, from 5 to 25 flowers are formed. The variety blooms almost continuously for two months.
  • Super Dorothy. It has a particularly pleasant, strong aroma. Stems grow up to 3 meters. Flowers are semi-double, crimson.
  • Rambling Rector. Chameleon variety: at the beginning of flowering they are ivory. As they fade in the sun, they become snow-white. In each brush, from 20 to 50 small flowers are formed. The rose is able to winter without shelter.
