Regrettable as it may be, this is the way it is: I have not seen no one course of a foreign language (including, by the way, very good ones), where absolutely honestly, without omissions and verbal fog, it was explained what, in fact, is the study of a foreign language. You and I, my dear interlocutor, are either not given any explanation at all, or are vaguely and confusedly invited to follow some vague instructions leading to many years of and ineffective wandering in the impenetrable jungle of a foreign language. I'm not even talking about ridiculous "textbooks" that try to teach you the language in a couple of minutes a day. Here the swindle already crosses all conceivable and inconceivable limits, limits and decency!

People! Humans! Brothers and sisters in mind! I turn to you, my friends! It is impossible to learn a foreign language by studying for three minutes a day, just as it is impossible to swim across a stormy ocean in an empty tin can! Believe me - a person who graduated from the faculty of foreign languages, studied languages ​​​​on his own, worked for many years as an interpreter, who taught languages ​​to the American Green Berets, military intelligence, the National Guard, the CIA and the NSA (an office more secret than the CIA, that's why you never heard of her), who worked for several years at the US Department of Defense Institute of Foreign Languages ​​in Monterey - one of the largest and most prestigious educational institutions similar kind in the world.

Believe me - a specialist in the field of learning foreign languages:

miracles in this area are extremely rare - although in principle they are possible - and they will not happen to you specifically! Don't rely on it. You are waiting for a hard and long work. However, you will receive a reward according to your labors - not the consciousness of your own humiliating impotence and the bitter taste of failure, but the sweetness of a well-deserved victory! For truly sweet is only what we receive after overcoming obstacles, after our difficulties and labors, and not at all what falls into our hands without effort on our part..

Thus, we "download" into our brains a plug-in for recognizing foreign speech; 2. Then we read the same materials to shit, thereby developing a pronunciation for ourselves; 3.??? 4. PROFIT!

Well, in principle, the method could be tested, but I suspect that not everything is as smooth as the author writes. I agree that at first it would be nice to train your ears, "accustoming" them to someone else's speech, but listen to the same minute dialogues for weeks for 3 hours a day?! Nikolai Batkovich, are you serious? And this is after your complaints about the language teaching system, which ruined so many talents? Yes, any normal person, and even more so a teenager, a schoolboy, will hate foreign languages ​​in a few days, and will smash his MP3 to hell. But this is only the beginning, you will continue to read them. days. Weeks. And if I can still somehow understand and accept the first stage, then further darkness is generally. How does a person who is armed with only a few audio files understand that it "sounds" correctly? Not all people have an ear for music, not everyone is able to critically evaluate themselves. How to understand that this is it, the inverse resonance matrix has been worked out in full? Moreover, the correct pronunciation is the correct facial expression, but how to recognize it if you only have these few voiced dialogues?

Well, the technique is a little embarrassing, but it has the right to life. But the book itself... It is absolutely impossible to read! I don’t know if this was an editorial task - to increase the volume of the text, or Mr. Zamyatkin just wanted to show all of us that over the years of his life in the USA, his Russian language has not slipped to the level of Aunt Sonya from Brighton Beach. Another thing that caught my eye was just an unhealthy reaction to language teachers. It feels like the author has a psychological trauma, stretching from childhood from the lesson in English. If I were a foreign language teacher, I would probably lay hands on myself after reading it, realizing the level of my insignificance. From the nonsense that he pours on the reader, sometimes it was just uncomfortable.

Many people who have successfully overcome a vicious, dead-end system in the field of learning foreign languages ​​and, as a result, have excellent knowledge of a foreign language (or several foreign languages), nevertheless experience some residual feeling of guilt for their success. False ideas about the “proper” approach to learning foreign languages ​​are so deeply rooted in us that we feel that our success is somehow “wrong”, “fraud”, that the path we intuitively took only accidentally led us to success. . In some paradoxical way, we consider ourselves to have violated some sacred rituals and rituals.

We, who speak foreign languages, prefer to blame ourselves unfairly (despite our obvious success), but cowardly refrain from blaming the entire vast system and all its representatives. For us it would be too hard. We prefer not to oppose the system. After all, you and I have been taught for so long that we must be good boys, wash your hands before eating, sit quietly and not make noise, obey your elders and not violate the order established from time immemorial, they taught that the majority is always right, that one’s small private interests should be subordinated to the interests of this majority. We blame ourselves and therefore we are so willing to believe in the accident of our success in learning a foreign language - we want to convince ourselves of this. Convince ourselves that we have mastered the language not at all contrary to the system - by challenging it. Convince ourselves that, as instructed, we "sat quietly", did our homework diligently, remained "good boys", were the first to raise our hands to answer the questions of wise teachers, and there is nothing to scold us for.

Of course, I agree that they teach languages ​​in schools and universities often not so hot, but aren’t there similar problems with other subjects? And what do you offer in return, dear author? Give schoolchildren an MP3-file, and then meet in six months, when they will work on your matrix? Oh yes, each person has his own learning rate, someone needs 3 months, someone needs a year ... A hitch.
